ASK YOUR DOCTOR A FEW QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU
It is important that you have as much information as possible in order to maximize the effectiveness of your prescription.
Of course you are happy that your doctor is providing you with a potential solution to your problem(s) when you are given that "golden" piece of paper with your Rx on it. But before you run to the pharmacy, take a few minutes to ask the doctor some critical questions about your medication. Here are a few important ones to think about:
What are the drug's generic and brand names?
What is it used for?
What's the prescribed dosage? How often should I take it and when?
How long should I take it? Do I need to finish the prescription? What if I miss a dose?
Are there things to avoid while taking this medication, such as alcohol, certain foods, or other medications?
What are the possible side effects?
Is it safe to take this drug when I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
Are there any interactions with the other prescription or over-the-counter drugs that I'm currently taking?
After reviewing this list, feel free to add your own questions pertinent to your particular case. By gaining additional knowledge, you take more control of your health and well-being.
