Bora Bora 4b

The French Polynesia is one of the best places in the world to dive, with warm, crystal-clear waters, an incredible marine geography, and wide variety of marine life. During our dives we are likely to see countless black-tip sharks, large grey sharks, lemon sharks, stingrays, eagle rays, and the majestic manta rays, turtles, Napoleon wrasse, and more!

This will be a particularly amazing trip because Tahiti is not only one of the best places in the world to dive, but it is also one of the most beautiful places in the world outside the water as well. We will be done with our dives every day before lunch and have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy the stunning tropical islands. All the islands are surrounded by gorgeous beaches (including the private beaches at our resorts) and offer a myriad of fun activities both water and land-based. From kayaking, paddle boarding, and wake boarding, to ATV'ing and hiking, we will have an amazing time both while diving, and while enjoying our vacation on land.

Now, one particular activity that we will be doing is going to be simply out-of-this world: We will go whale watching, but when/if we find them, we're not only going to watch them, but we will JUMP IN THE WATER AND SWIM WITH THEM! Yup, you read that correctly!

2022-04-11 (36)

And if that wasn't enough, we will be staying at unbelievable private hotels and resorts everywhere we go, and will also have the opportunity to stay in the famous overwater bungalows in Moorea! You know you have always dreamed of staying in one, and, well, now you will be able to!

Miri Miri

This dive site is perfect for newbies and advanced divers alike. The depth at this dive site can go anywhere between 15m-45m depending on your certification level.

These gently sloping reefs are buzzing with Black Tip Reef Sharks, Turtles, and Giant Napoleon Wrasse. This dive site is sometimes referred to as ‘Roses’ due to the sheer number of Montipora that cover the reef and look like a garden of roses. This is most certainly not a dive site to be missed.

This dive site is more of an intermediate dive site and has a depth of 10m-30m. It takes a little while to reach this site so few divers get to experience the wonders of Tupitipiti.

This dive is a huge reef filled with caves, overhangs, and swim-throughs all waiting to be explored. This dive site is not known for its marine life, however, you’ll get to see White Tip Reef Sharks, turtles, and of course a variety of reef fish.

Along the reef, you’ll find vibrant green and orange sponges with red and blue branching corals. If you’re a budding underwater photographer, this dive site is ideal for you.

Anau is an exceptional dive site with great visibility and an average depth of 22m. Anau is a dive site for all levels of divers and provides an opportunity to dive with anywhere between 5 to 10 Mantas at one time.

The Manta Ray dives begin in the center of an incredibly colored coral garden. There are so many variations and colors of coral here that it almost baffles divers. This dive site is famous for its Manta Ray cleaning station, which allows them to relax and feed at this location.

Due to the sheer number of divers visiting this top dive site, it has now become protected by the government, which only allows divers to dive here in the morning, so remember this before booking your dives.

Haapiti is available for all divers and has a maximum depth of around 30m below sea level. This dive site consists of a gentle slope covered with incredible coral and rock formations. There are numerous tunnels and canyons to explore with a diverse selection of marine life making this site their home. Three types of shark regularly visit this spot including Black Tip Reef Sharks, large Grey Sharks, and the famous giant Lemon Sharks. You will also see colorful Trigger Fish and Large Napoleon Wrasse.

Toopua is a lagoon dive and has a maximum depth of 30m. Toopua is known for its sheer variety and diversity of marine life. You’ll get to see enormous anemones that are home to cute Clown Fish as well as a number of other reef fish. Located on the sandbank at the bottom of the fall, you’ll find Stingrays, Leopard Wrasse, and Scorpion Fish. Once you reach the end of the dive, you’ll get to see a huge coral garden just waiting to be explored.

Today we say goodbye to the gorgeous Bora Bora, and fly to another paradise island: Moorea. In Moorea we are in for a treat, as we stay in one of the most beautiful island resorts in the French Polynesia, Sofitel Kia Ora Resort! At this resort, we will also have the chance to stay in one of the most delightful and unique accommodations in the world: an overwater bungalow, where each room is an individual villa on stilts over the water, with its own private access to the water.

We'll check in to our resort and have the day to swim, snorkel, explore the island, or simply lay out under the tropical French Polynesian rays.

Some of the top dive sites in Moorea (Courtesy of Deeper Blue)

Tiki Point

Tiki Point is one of the most popular dive sites for photographers and it’s no surprise why. This dive location is heaving with marine life and reef critters. Due to the sheer amount of reef fish, there are also a large number of predators visiting this site. Black Tip Reef Sharks, Lemon, and Grey Sharks are all found at this location. You’ll also find the occasional Dolphin or even Whale gracing you with their presence depending on the time of year.

The Rose Garden

This dive site is just superb however; you must have an advanced diving qualification to attempt this dive due to the number of decompression stops required. For safety reasons, some dive companies only allow you to dive this site with them if you have a rescue diver certification or above. This dive site is located off the north coast of Mo’orea and is home to incredible coral topography covered with rose-like Montipora coral. If you have the ability to peel your eyes away from the beautiful reef, you’ll notice the shark-infested waters around this location. Depths at this site range from 30m to 40m.

Aito is a dive site located close to Tiki Point and is a drift dive. There’s similar marine life here however, if you’re lucky, Turtles have been known to glide around the reef. The stunning Emperor Angel Fish is also found at Aito. Aito is known or its exceptional Flora and Fauna. This dive spot is not to be missed.

Rays Corridor Drift

This dive site is like none other, not only for its crystal clear waters but also for its remarkable marine life. The drift dive begins on a white sandy slope and you can drift anywhere from 1.5 to 2 miles through the fast pace waters traveling through a natural lagoon channel. Whilst moving at speed, try and take the time to appreciate the stunning wall of coral and reef critters. You’ll find schools of Eagle Rays and White Tip Sharks either hiding out in one of the many reef caves or simply sleeping on the ocean bed. This dive site is an incredible experience that should not be missed.

Opunohu Coral Wall

Located in Mo’orea’s famous Opunohu Bay, this is a spectacular dive both from the boat and under the water. Opunohu Bay is known for its incredible scenery and volcanic mountainous landscape, however, once you’re under the water, the real adventure begins. With its beautiful coral walls and canyons, this dive site has been split into three dive sites. One of the dive sites travels slightly deeper, where you can see a smaller ‘Rose Garden’. The second dive site goes along a large wall and the third end near Sharks Dining Room. If you get the opportunity to dive all three sites, take it. You’ll see Turtles, Moray Eels and a huge variety of reef fish and critters.

Stingray World

Stingray World is more of an experience than a dive, so if you’re looking for an opportunity to swim and even feed Stingrays, then you’re best bet is Stingray World. The organizers of this trip provide food for the Stingrays and once you’re in the water you can feed anywhere up to 10 Stingrays at a time. However, be careful not to kick up the sand and ruin the visibility in the sandy shallows.

Boat outing with two tank diving in the morning. We will plan to visit two different new sites every day.

We'll be back by lunch time. In the afternoon we will finish our diving days with one of highlights of our trip, as we go on a boat outing to look for humpback whales. And when if find them, we will not only see them but jump in the water and swim with them!

Moorea is one of the few places in the world where you can do that. We will be 100% safe, and so will the whales. The whales can be very curious, and will often approach us!

As a disclaimer, obviously at any time we are dealing with nature, there are no guarantees. Whale season is from July to November, so we are coming at the tail end of the season, but we still have chances to see them.

After nine incredible days of bliss, beauty, culture, and adventure, we unfortunately now have to go back to grown-up life. I know, it sucks! We just want to stay forever! However, we booked our flights out of Moorea later in the day, so we will be able to check out of our rooms, but still have a full day to enjoy the hotel or even more of Moorea.

At night, we'll say good bye to paradise, but promise to come back one day.

- 1000 Treks is not a budget company, you all know that what makes us special is our unmatched itineraries, such as the one for this trip. However, we must point out that this trip is offering unmatched value as well. The cost of the hotels alone for this trip would normally be over 4,000.00. Our operator is very well connected and not only put together an incredible itinerary, but also got us a price that you could never find even if you did a bare-bones budget itinerary.

- In order to save you money, we don't add the cost of credit card processing to the price of the trip, so this price is for check, bank transfer, or any form of payment that does not incur a fee. We can take the deposit via credit card, but need the remaining balance to be paid by a direct form of payment. If you want to pay for the remaining balance with a credit card, we can accept it, but have to add a 5% fee.

- A deposit of 700.00 (non-refundable, but movable) starts your reservation. Once we receive your deposit, we'll send you a questionnaire and a contract that will need to be returned to us in 72 hours to guarantee your spot. You can read the contract in advance HERE.

- Once you return the filled out questionnaire and signed contract, we will send you an invoice for the remaining amount. You will have until August 19, 2022 (three months before departure) to finish making your payment.

- Once you are confirmed, your deposit becomes movable. That means, if you need to cancel your participation on the trip for any reason, you may request a credit for 100% of your deposit that can be applied to any 1000 Leagues Travel Trip which departs within one year of the departing date of the original trip.

- Full payment is only due on August 19, 2022 , three months before the trip. You can make payments in any way you prefer so long as you are fully paid by the due date.

- If you make payments or pay in full before the due date, your payments (minus the deposit) are refundable before the due date. After that, all payments are entirely non-refundable.

- All trips are governed by our comprehensive contract. You should familiarize yourself with it prior to signing up for any of our trips. You can access it by clicking HERE or visiting https://www.1000treks.com/contract/. A link to the contract can also be found at the bottom of all our webpages under "CONTRACT".

- Travel and dive insurances are REQUIRED. You may purchase insurance with any company you wish, but we require that your policy includes diving and non-diving related accidents, including death, dismemberment, personal injury, medical expenses, emergency evacuation and treatment, repatriation, and personal liability, with a minimum coverage of USD$200,000. Your dive insurance must also include search & rescue, and decompression chamber. You will be required to submit proof of insurance no later than (seven) 7 days prior to the start of the trip or you will not be allowed to participate in the Trip and will forfeit all your payments.. Although not part of the requirement, we STRONGLY suggest that you get insurance right away (within 15 days of making your deposit), and that you buy a policy that will cover you in case you need to cancel your trip for any reason.

- Because of the adventurous nature of our trips, our itinerary and some locations are subject to change due to weather, tides, road conditions, logistics, and other unforeseen circumstances. It’s not likely, but it could happen. Whenever we make a change in the itinerary, we will do our best to maintain the integrity of the trip.

- A passport is required for all international travel. Your passport must be valid for 6 months after your return date.  If you don't have a valid passport, or if you passport expires before 6 months after the date you will arrive back in the U.S., make sure to get started on a new one ASAP. Here's the link for the Department of State Passport section: http://travel.state.gov//content/travel/en.html

- As of the time of this posting American citizens don’t need a visa for the French Polynesia. If you have a foreign passport, you may need a visa. Here's the French Embassy website so you can look into that: https://franceintheus.org/.   We also recommend that even American citizens periodically check to make sure visa requirements have not changed.

- If you need to take care of any those issues, make sure to get on them ASAP so you don't get held up because of some unexpected delay. We've had people missing trips and losing their money because they waited too long or had unexpected issues come up and couldn't take care of them before the trip started.

- Having a valid passport and all the required visas is your responsibility. Please make sure you have those, and any other necessary issues are resolved well ahead of time. 1000 Leagues Travel and its affiliates are not responsible for any problems resulting from you not taking care of issues ahead of time.

This trip will happen around a time in which a potential resurgence of COVID-19 could affect our plans. COVID-19 has become a tricky element because of the unpredictable nature of the virus. It appears that insurance companies have been very restrictive on their coverage; we know insurance companies do offer coverage for the Coronavirus at an additional premium, but this still remains limited and with caps on reimbursement. Additionally, local suppliers have found themselves in a difficult situation because they often have to make their plans and respective reservations for different activities in advance. Therefore, all they can possibly offer in case 1000 Treks needs to cancel the trip after the final payment due date is a credit for the exact same trip for next year. At the same time, because of the virus's effect on local economies, we have been able to secure pricing that at any other time would be notably more expensive.

We believe it is extremely unlikely that we will have to cancel this trip altogether, even if there is a resurgence of COVID-19 at that time. However, it is a possibility, and we want to be completely transparent about the possible outcome. We also want to be 100% upfront that there is the possibility that a resurgence and extreme measures similar to the ones taken in response to the initial outbreak may drive some of the suppliers out of business. If that's the case, they may be unable to provide us with credit or services. This could alter the itinerary, or even render the trip impossible to take and without refunds or credits provided for a future date. We will always do our best to make everything happen, and, again, although the outlined scenarios are extremely unlikely to occur, ultimately we cannot guarantee they won't.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all travelers. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all travelers. You will be required to show proof of current vaccination and all required boosters of a Center for Disease Control and/or World Health Organization approved vaccine to 1000 Leagues Travel at least seven (7) days before the first day of the Trip, or you will not be allowed to participate in the Trip and will forfeit all your payments. The type of vaccine accepted by different countries might vary, and all our groups will have to comply with all the requirements from all the countries we will be visiting, traveling through, or returning to. Noncompliance with any of the vaccinations requirements at any time may result in your removal from the trip without any refunds or compensation. 1000 Leagues Travel will not be held responsible for any circumstances resulting from failure to provide proof of vaccination.

Proof of a negative COVID-19 test might also be required. All travelers must be ready to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test if required by any of the locations we will be visiting, travelling through, or returning to. Noncompliance may result in your removal from the trip without any refunds or compensation, and furthermore may result in imposed quarantine, which might result in loss of airfare and other financial consequences. 1000 Leagues Travel will not be held responsible for any circumstances resulting from failure to provide a negative COVID-19 test whenever required.

Please refer to section 7 of the contract titled  "COVID-19/CORONAVIRUS (“VIRUS”)" for the limitations of our liability.
