Continuing our tradition of going on a scuba diving trip to amazing warm water tropical locations on Thanksgiving, this year we go to one of the most beautiful places in the world: Bali!
Aside from being one of the most beautiful places in the world and top item on any travel lover's bucket list, Bali, “The Island of the Gods”, is also a scuba diving dream and paradise. Bali is situated in the richest marine biogeographic zone in the world. With clear water, amazing marine life and unique dive sites, Bali is must-go destination for any scuba diver.
A great bonus of Bali is that it is one of the only countries in the world that allows us to dive both the Pacific and Indian Oceans on the same trip!
As always, we are taking advantage of Thanksgiving and the weekends around it, so we only have to take 3 days off work, but will be able to go on an 8-day trip across the Pacific and Indian oceans and do 15 guided dives in some of the best dive sites in Indonesia and the world. Here are some of the dive sites/places we will visit:
Amed
From coral reefs to walls, from black sand to wreck diving, Amed has a huge variety of landscapes and reef life. Among others, here we are likely to see the pigmy seahorse.
Tulamben
Here we will dive the USAT Liberty, one of the best wrecks in the world, famous for being home to an incredible variety of sea life. We will also do a night dive on the Liberty!
Padang Bai
Padang Bai, where we will get to see a variety of unusual fish, including frogfish (that has legs and walks on the bottom of the ocean), leaf scorpion fish, and crocodile fish.
Nusa Penida
One of the best places in the world to dive with Manta Rays. We are all but guaranteed to find ourselves surrounded by these majestic animals!
Nusa Lembongan
A rich island with great options for both beginners and advanced divers, where we can even have the chance to dive with dolphins in waters with over 100 feet visibility!
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19 - ARRIVE IN SANUR | TRANSFER TO TULAMBEN | OPTIONAL BARONG & KRIS DANCE FOR EARLY ARRIVALS
Arrive and take a big deep breath! You have arrived to Bali after all! We will transfer early in the afternoon to Tulamben, where we will kick off our Balinese adventure. If you arrived early (November 18), you have the option of taking in a morning Barong and Kris dance, a typical Balinese ritual dance. In the dance, you will see the story of the fight between good and evil.
After our afternoon transfer to Tulamben, we will have a Traditional Indonesian group dinner (included) and orientation meeting.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Kajane Tulamben 4* or similar.
MEALS: Dinner.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20 - AMED | 3-TANK DIVE
In Amed we will find wrecks, walls, coral gardens, drifts and muck/macro dives with great visibility. With its unique black sand bottom, Amed has a unique marine life and divers often find species they didn't even know existed!
We will do a three-tank dive day from the morning until early afternoon. With great visibility and calm waters, Amed is also a great place for an optional night dive.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21 - TULAMBEN DIVE | USAT LIBERTY DIVE | CORAL GARDEN | NIGHT DIVE AT THE LIBERTY
Today is going to be a legendary day, where we will get to dive one of the greatest wrecks in the world: The USAT Liberty.
A United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-166 in January 1942 is now a wreck busting with marine life, in fairly shallow waters with plenty of light, and very easy and safe to penetrate.
We will do one dive at the Liberty during the day, another dive at one of the many sites in Tulamben (to be decided by our guides according to conditions), and then go back to the Liberty for an astounding night dive!
ACCOMMODATIONS: Kajane Tulamben 4* or similar.
MEALS: Breakfast and Lunch.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22 - PADANG BAI | 3-TANK DIVE
Another must-dive location in Bali, Padang Bai has an impressive landscape of hard and soft corals, several types of gorgonians, healthy staghorn corals, huge coral boomies, and table corals. It is also home to hundreds of species, both large and small: oriental sweet lips, moray eels, many species of clownfish and anemone fish, napoleon wrasses, trevalies, jackfish, dogtoothe tunas, king mackerels, crocodilefish, lionfish, octopus, pharoah cuttlefish, green turtles, whitetip, blacktip reef, nurse and wobbegong sharks. We will also find macro life such as frogfish, ornate, robust and ghost pipefish, leaf scorpionfish, pygmy seahorses, nudibranches and flabelinas, siagiani squat lobsters, orang-utang crabs, zebra crabs and other rare crustaceans.
We will do a three-tank dive day from the morning until early afternoon, and have the option to add a night dive.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Puri Santrian 4* or similar.
MEALS: Breakfast and Lunch.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23 - NUSA PENIDA | 3-TANK DIVE
Nusa Penida’s dive spots consistently rank in the top 10 dive sites worldwide, and are among the top 3 dive sites in Indonesia
Located in the Indian Ocean side of Bali, Nusa Penida is one of the best locations in the world to dive with the majestic manta ray. Nusa Penida is also home to over 500 species of reef fish, corals, and pelagic creatures including: white tip reef sharks, eagle rays and blue-spotted stingrays, lionfish, octopus, moray eels, scorpionfish, soft corals, clownfish, butterflyfish, barracuda, trevally, snappers, sea turtles and pufferfish.

MEALS: Breakfast and Lunch. Optional Thanksgiving Beach Dinner.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24 - NUSA LEMBONGAN | 3-TANK DIVE
Next to Nusa Penida, we will find Nusa Lembongan. Nusa Lembongan is similar to Nusa Penida, but has its own flavor. We will do a three-tank dive, where we we are likely to see Mantas, as well as eagle rays reef sharks, and, with a little luck, curious spinner dolphins that are likely to come swim with us!
ACCOMMODATIONS: Puri Santrian 4* or similar.
MEALS: Breakfast and Lunch.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25 – FREE DAY IN SANUR | OPTIONAL DIVES | OPTIONAL CYCLING TOUR | OPTIONAL ULUWATU TEMPLE VISIT, KECAK FIRE DANCE, FAREWELL BEACH DINNER.
Depending on when you book your flight on Sunday, today you might be able to go on another dive to Padang Bai, Nusa Penida, or Nusa Lembongan.
We will also have the chance to go on a wonderful and relaxed downhill cycling tour through villages and rice fields. The views will be breathtaking and scenic, and unique to Bali. We will stop for breathtaking views of traditional houses, rice fields, Banyan trees, and more. We’ll re-energize during the tour with a coffee break. We will arrive back just in time for those going to the optional temple visit, Kecak dance, and seafood dinner on the beach.
If we want to do some land exploration on our last day, we have an optional temple visit, Kecak dance, and farewell dinner on the beach, starting with a visit to one of the most famous temples in Bali, Uluwatu. Situated at the southern tip of Bali on a cliff, the view from this temple is nothing short of magnificent. Mind the cheeky monkeys that call the temple home and whom we will surely encounter. After a tour through the temple and taking in its views, we will head to the arena for the Kecak and Fire dance that will be seared in your mind as the performance of a lifetime. This is a very famous dance that tells the story of the ancient King Rama. The story is set at sunset and continues into the night, and will go into the dark lit only by the bamboo torches in the center.
Afterwards, we will enjoy a farewell dinner on Jimbaran Beach, recounting our incredible Thanksgiving week memories over a seafood BBQ, arriving back to the hotel around 10PM.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Puri Santrian 4* or similar.
MEALS: Breakfast. Optional dinner on the beach.
