You can choose to take an optional hike of the Rainbow Falls Loop to the Rainbow Falls waterfall this morning to really take in the scenery and breathe in the fresh air by foot.
Another option, for those who prefer a ride, is to do the "Wild Wild West", a truly exciting ATV ride through the rugged terrain of the Callaghan Valley and along Whistler’s longest single track ATV trail. Experience the pristine wilderness of the backcountry as you travel along forested trails, past pristine lakes, up the Staircase Trail, across narrow bridges and through natural ATV playgrounds.
Yet another option is the "River of Golden Dreams" guided canoe tour in which you will learn paddling techniques and float the historic Alta Lake. Following families of ducks and geese into the lush river mouth you'll paddle through flowing lilies and around bends of overhanging greenery as you learn about Whistler’s history, flora and fauna.

In all our travels we have found that a respite on the road can be as good as an actual activity (if not better) when it's taken through the right places! Though we will stop for breaks, you will probably enjoy our stop at a local winery with a tour and tasting the best!
Upon arrival this afternoon, we will check in to the hotel and have leisure time to explore this crown jewel of Canada, which we are so fortunate enough to call "home" for the next few days.
To stay here in the summertime is truly a gift to be grateful for! Behold and feast your eyes on this natural masterpiece :)

THURSDAY, JUNE 22 - BANFF | COLUMBIA ICEFIELD
ICEFIELDS PARKWAY | DISCOVERY CENTRE | OPTIONAL RIDE ON ATHABASCA GLACIER | OPTIONAL ICEFIELD SKYWALK | LAKE LOUISE AND HISTORIC FAIRMONT HOTEL
Today we head to Columbia Icefield along the stunning Icefields Parkway. The road is lined with unforgettably spectacular lakes, glaciers, and waterfalls. There is also a great chance to see wildlife, such as bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer, and moose, and even a black bear or grizzly bear!
The Columbia Icefield is a surviving remnant of the thick ice mass that once mantled most of Western Canada's mountains. Lying on a wide, elevated plateau, it is the largest icefield in the Canadian Rockies. We will not only visit the Icefield after driving the Parkway, but we will visit the Columbia Icefields Discovery Centre.
Optionally, you can take the Snow Coach Ride on the Athabasca Glacier. Massive Brewster Ice Explorers, specially designed for glacial travel, take passengers on a remarkable excursion onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. Each 80-minute journey is lead by an experienced driver-guide, who shares a wealth of fascinating information about glaciers, icefields and their impact on our environment. Mid-point in the tour, passengers can safely step out onto the glacier and stand on this powerful ancient ice.
Another option for those who dare is to take the Columbia Icefield Skywalk. Experience waterfalls, wildlife, fossils, and more on an exciting cliff-edge walkway that leads to a platform where glass is all that separates you from a 918-foot drop.
On the way back we will have a chance to stop in Lake Louise with its milky to crystal blue-green waters to admire the stunning scenery and pay a visit to the historic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for some nice views and a cocktail.
The rest of the evening will be free for us to spend at leisure in Banff.

Although not part of the requirement, we STRONGLY suggest that you get insurance right away (within 15 days of making your deposit), and that you buy a policy that will cover you in case you need to cancel your trip for any reason.
- Because of the adventurous nature of our trips, our itinerary and some locations are subject to change due to weather, tides, road conditions, logistics, and other unforeseen circumstances. It’s not likely, but it could happen. Whenever we make a change in the itinerary, we will do our best to maintain the integrity of the trip.
- A passport is required for all international travel. Your passport must be valid for 6 months after your
return date. If you don't have a valid passport, or if your passport expires before 6 months after the date
you will arrive back in the U.S., make sure to get started on a new one ASAP.
Here's the link for the Department of State Passport section: http://travel.state.gov//content/travel/en.html
- As of the time of this posting American citizens don’t need a visa for Canada. If you have a
foreign passport, you may need a visa. Here's the Canadian Embassy website so you can look into that: https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp. We also recommend that even American citizens periodically check to make sure visa requirements have not changed.
- If you need to take care of any those issues, make sure to get on them ASAP so you don't get held up
because of some unexpected delay. We've had people miss trips and lose money because they
waited too long or had unexpected issues come up and couldn't take care of them before the trip
started.
- Having a valid passport and all the required visas is your responsibility. Please make sure you have
those, and any other necessary issues are resolved well ahead of time. 1000 Treks is not responsible for any problems resulting from you not taking care of issues ahead of time.
